“I made a decision today to part ways with Brian Flores,” Miami Dolphins owner, Stephen Ross, said last week.

The Dolphins let go of their former head coach, Brian Flores, after only three seasons at the helm. As head coach, Flores led his players to record-breaking wins for the beleaguered Dolphins. Flores replaced previous Dolphins head coach, Adam Gase, who also lasted three seasons before being released.

I have always believed that leadership is really about service, and I did my best to serve the players, the staff and the organization every day. I believe in this team and will always value the relationships my family and I made here.

— Brian Flores

As head coach, Flores had a 24-25 record and helped the Dolphins through many wins. In fact, during this last season, the Dolphins were 9-8 and had a victory in this year’s final game against the New England Patriots. During Flores’ last season with the Dolphins in 2021, the team made history as the first team to have a seven game losing streak and bring the record around with a seven game winning streak — all in the same season. Although the outcome against the Tennessee Titans left the team without a chance in the playoffs, Flores’ overall efforts with the Dolphins are recognized as a factor to their success this past year.

Unfortunately, Dolphins’ owner Stephen Ross confirmed Flores will not return for another season. Ross “made a decision” to part ways with the former head coach and stated the shocking decision is “in the best interest of the Miami Dolphins.” Although there is speculation Flores’ uneasy relationships with Ross played an important role in the surprising news, Ross wished the former coach “nothing but the best in his future.”

Though Flores’ next step is yet unknown, the Chicago Bears have shown some interest in him. Of his sudden dismissal, Flores said, “I have always believed that leadership is really about service, and I did my best to serve the players, the staff and the organization every day. I believe in this team and will always value the relationships my family and I made here.”
